Anneke's answer is right on. I had no trouble at all placing the pins. the crossed pairs tell you where to set the pin.
Lorri -- To decide where to put a pin, hold, after making the edge stitch, the 2nd pair along the pattern line. --The 1st pair is kept perpendicular to the 2nd pair. The place to set the pin is under the edge stitch, on the line.
