Lorelei, Don't feel so bad about your thread. I made a B earlier this year from a pattern an Ozzie friend sent me (hi Annette :-) ), and I used about a 140/2 cotton, but for the thick thread, I used coloured 50 Retours - pink to outline the flower, green for the leaves and Blue for the letter. I wasn't sure how it would turn out - Honiton not being my forte - but it looked OK.
