Anyway back to the important stuff - Lace specifically wire lace - what was the gauge of wire recommended a few weeks ago
You can't recommend a single size wire for wire-lace; like all other lace, wire lace will have its own demands as to the size of "thread", depending on the pattern. And, from the little of it I've tasted, it prefers to have a thin wire doubled, than a thicker one used as a single strand (it gives a more texturally interesting effect to have two strands, as they're never *precisely* parallel. Also, it's easier to patch-up breaks <g>). Most of Lenka Suchanek's kits are in the 30-32 range, though she uses some that are finer; I suspect that Susan Lambiris (see her work on Arachne Community webshots):

would think even 30-32 range as "rope" :)
So, 24 would, in all likelihood, be more of a "gimp" wire than your basic bread and butter thread, in the normal "scheme of things". But, 12 colours is a powerful argument for re-scaling (enlarging) the pattern to suit :) Colour range limitations pose a constant problem in wire work; even addding beads alleviates the frustration only a little bit. Our Defense Secretary may say: "you work with the thread you have, not with the thread you might want to have" as many times as he pleases, but he has no practical experience in the field, when all's said and done...
