I wanted to share my enthusiasm for Louise Colgan's new production on Milanese Lace (also available on VHS tape). All one needs to be successful in this "class" is a basic knowledge of cloth stitch. Absolutely every step and detail of the procedures are demonstrated and clearly shown. I consider myself an intermediate lacemaker, but there were several basic lacemaking techniques that were so beautifully demonstrated, that I learned a great deal about bobbin lace techniques in general.
I'd never done any Milanese lace, so the beautiful braids and ways to manipulate the colors to get them where you want them were fascinating to me. The best part is that one can be almost guaranteed success by following along. And of course, you can stop, rewind, replay, etc., until you know exactly what you're doing, then stop the program while you do it. It's like having your own private teacher, with infinite patience to demonstrate something over and over, until you "get" it. :-) Here's my "class" project: http://homepage.mac.com/bejoyce/hummingbird.jpg Not bad for a first attempt!
