I know the video system are different in the US and Europe, we use PAL 
but I burned a dvd (in my computer) and sent it to my friend in the US 
and she could watch it on her television. Is there a difference between 
dvd�s you buy and dvd�s you burn yourself??

An all regions DVD player is only part of the answer. You need to also 
make sure that your TV will also accept NTSC - the tv system used in 
America, in the UK as in Australia the PAL system is used.
