That works for Milanese lace as it doesn't use half stitches. I wouldn't
now how to distinghuish between a half stitch and cloth stitch with just
adding cross-hatches.

No, you can't. The difference between half and cloth stitches is a cross, not a twist. Half Stitch must have one color and Cloth Stitch another. It's the third stitch, CTCT, that can share a color with Cloth Stitch by the addition of a Twist cross-hatch on the pattern.
