This thread is so interesting, from the point of view of actually learning how others live!
Jean, giving the details of your home makes me realise how lucky I am in my great big barn of a place. And 40 minutes to go 7 miles! I drive 115km in 75 minutes to go to Canberra twice monthly for lace meetings with only a couple of traffic lights once I reach the outskirts of Canberra. Also, the size of the towns mentioned. Cooma has a population of only 8,000, and I have about 8 members of our self help group which meets at our house, so percentage wise Cooma must be a very lacey place! All my members came to me through word of mouth so far, but I do have a small notice in the window of our local craft shop (8,000 inhabitants and we have a craft shop!) and feel quite safe here leaving my phone number on it. A tourist passing through recently rang me up from that number, and I invited her up. We ended up spending several hours and lunch together, just talking lace (luckily husbands had things in common too). We used to have adult education classes here in all sorts of craft/sewing/cooking related things, but they have become a victim of budget cuts. Everyone mourns their loss.
