Hi Kathy, spangled bobbins are too heavy for the thread used in Honiton lace - hence the very slim light Honiton bobbins.
I cannot comment on the handling of continental bobbins, as I have no experience of using them. Part of the problem could be the filling of the pillow you are using. Honiton bobbins handle differently on a traditional straw filled pillow, to the modern styrene type. The straw seems to absorb the impact of the bobbins as they land, so they don't bounce around as much. They don't roll as easily on the straw either. The bobbins roll very easily on a smooth styrene pillow. I much prefer handling Honiton bobbins on a straw pillow, though I kept my styrene Honiton pillow for doing samples, and to use when travelling. I wouldn't want to use it for a large project though.
