My other Idrija book says " For the typical Idrija lace, cotton no 30 is used, which is equivalent to linen thread 50/2 or 80/3." This might give you a size quideline.

In your book, the first pattern (mouse) uses 5 pair. Since one is the worker, the others are passives -- i.e. eight threads. Take eight strands of your prospective thread and lay them on the pattern. Do they fill the desired space to your satisfaction? Then there's a good chance that it will work on your pattern also.

However, the book added the standard advise to try a sample with your thread before starting the big project. <G> At least it's only 8 pair to wind for a test.

Have fun!
