The campus our group used the last time no longer books conferences. The local college to me holds conferences but will book them no earlier than one year ahead. That doesn't work for us because it takes our small group longer than that to do all the preparation. We had to have a date before we could contract any teachers. etc etc etc etc. We booked two years ahead for our small conference. The bigger the conference, the sooner a location needs to be booked. Finding a suitable location can be a major problem in some areas. We are all grateful for the groups who have been able to host the IOLI conferences.
And the ones scheduled in the future (Denver, Montreal, Oklahoma, Illinois).
In all my conference attending -- professional and hobby -- I have been at only one 5-star hotel. My.....It WAS an experience. I can certify that no other hotel ever came close. They replaced towels twice a day, turned down the bed in the evening, had silver ice buckets, and crystal goblets to drink from, orchids in the rest rooms, real cloth hand towels in some rest rooms, and staff members constantly asking if they could do something for me.
Now, while I wait to hear which classes I will attend, I'll go back to working on our regional conference next year which we hope will be a fun experience dispite simple dorm accommodations.
Happy lacing, Alice in Oregon -- where we finally had a day with rain.
