Hello Spiders In the Italian als I also saw some ladies using only pins on the edges. Indeed it was a course lace. They worked pins up on a pillow shaped like a car wheel, bobbins hanging on the site. They also used one pin at the bottom of the V. From time to time the made a tctctc. After the tctc they spread both pairs as wide as possible to tension, then threw the bobbins to make the last tc. For that purpose the bobbins do have bulbs of more than an inch or about 3cm.
