Yeah, that was my first response, too :) It's worse than "old" - getting old I may be, but, *slimy*????
I'd also like to point out that IOLI has members on every continent except
Antarctica (20 countries), which makes it pretty much international....
Yeah, except they're still like raisins in the - mostly US-American - cake :) "Token foreigners", maybe?
Brits (the Lace Guild) neatly managed to avoid the "nationality trap" though, IMO, the end result is also a bit ambivalent and a bit "grandiose", suggesting there's but *the* Lace Guild, and no need to define which country it's in (like their stamps <g>).
I *would* like to see the name (IOLi) changed but, unless someone (and it's not likely to be me) comes up with an *obviously* improved name, it looks like it might not be worth the hassle. It's like sewing - it's easier to make your clothes "from scratch" than to make adjustments... :)
