Hi everyone - I, for one, am enjoying the discussion about the IOLI name
even as a spectator (i.e. non-member) - it is good to question things in
an organization, and keep in tune with why the rules, bylaws, and names
were made, make changes as is timely, and don't lose sight of the origins.

I did work at changing the name of a non-profit I was with, took two
years, we kept the initials, because the group was successfully known by
the letters, but the old long name had been outmoded by the evolution of
the group and its place in a larger organization (etc.). We didn't keep
the stationery though! - with the refreshing change of name, we designed a
new logo. And the group expanded and I know it benefitted from the name
change. It took lots of discussion, but was all done for the greater good
of the organization - if after due course it seemed the name should not be
changed, the members would have agreed (etc.)

I pronounce the distinct letters of IOLI, and LOKK, but make a word out of
OIDFA.

About the hypothetical ALGI - it has merit. I would proudly call myself a
member of Ay-Ell-Gee-Eye or Ay-Ell-Gee, ink, but I wouldn't say I was a
member of Al-Gee (how I pronounce algae) unless I was a member of All-Lace
Guilds And Embroiderers ~
Actually I'd be more inclined to say 'I'm a member of the
Ay-Ell-Gee-Ay-Ee' or refer to the group familiarly as 'the Guilds.'
(hypothetically)

bye for now
