Over the years we have heard many strange and amusing comments while demonstrating, but the most outrageous came at our Lace Fair, held last weekend. The entry fee was only 1.50, for which you got access to 20 top class suppliers, very reasonably priced home made cakes etc, and our usual mammoth tombola (prize every time!). Two lacemakers arrived and asked "As we only want to look at the stalls for an hour or so, do we still have to pay?"!!!! I was almost speechless, and could only reply "Yes, just like everyone else". They paid up, but left me wondering, if they have any idea of the work involved in organising such an event, the cost of hiring the hall etc. Not to mention the fact that a large proportion of any profits goes to charity!
Luckily, most lacemakers are friendly and grateful, and quick to say so, and make it all worth while.
