Awhile ago, we were talking about modifying a one-and-only so it could be
folded up and packed in luggage. I just wanted to say, it works!

I used a serrated knife to cut the pillow "apron" in half cross-ways. I cut
the long foam-core boards in half, too, although I think I wouldn't do that if
I were to make another one. Then I scored the underlying cardboard and
reinforced the bottom with duct tape to make a hinge.

After covering the apron and cardboard with fabric, I put ribbon around the
box, along the cut edge of each half, and along the rim of each half. The
ribbon along the cut edge makes a decorative stripe that hides the edge of the
fabric. The ribbon around the box and the rim are longer on one half, so the
ends can be pinned down on the other side. This keeps the pillow opened flat
while using. Unpin and the thing folds in half.

I brought this pillow to a workshop last weekend. It fit easily into my
suitcase, and it worked just fine at the workshop!
