Hello Nicki
I've moved this from chat to lace as it is lace related. You wrote:
Looking back at my scrap book it's 20 years since I was in Brussels! but both of the museums I visited then now have websites and mention lace.
I've no doubt that this one has been asked before, but a friend has asked about any museums, shops etc in Brussels that are of interest to a lacemaker? She will not be able to travel to Brugge.
Can anyone suggest places to go to see etc
The Cinquantenaire building of the musees royaux d'art et d'histoire had quite a big collection of lace - my scrapbook has a picture of a needle lace bedspread dated 1599. That museum is a little way out of the centre of town.

The museum of costume and lace in Rue de la Violette/Violet Straat is walking distance from the main square with the Maneqin Pis statue. I remember that as having two floors of costuem, much of which was made for theatrical/operatic performances, one floor of antique lace and one floor (3rd floor English, 4th floor American) at the top, of modern lace. It was an insignificant looking entrance, in one of the less busy streets but wonderful inside. I doubt it would pass current accessability regulations though (are old buildings exempt?) with three flights of stairs.

There was also a shop which sold threads, patterns etc in Galerie de la Reign, the oldest shopping precinct in Europe, which is also in central Brussels, but I've no idea if it's still selling lace supplies.
