Gentle Spiders,

Unless my provider's dead, the list is quiet, so I'm taking the opportunity to make a bit of a stir... :)

Once upon a time, Adrienne Kattke (as a representative of the Merrydown Lacers) was put in charge of disposing of the collections (books and tools) of several members who'd passed away. The funds from selling those were kept in reserve, till a goodly lace cause was found.

Once upon a time, Devon Thein got sick and tired of hearing, from the Metropolitan Museum of Art: "we don't have the money to photograph/whatever our lace collection. And it's not a subject anyone cares about, anyway", and decided to start a Lace-Dedicated Fund within its textile branch - The Antonio Ratti Textile Center.

Both ladies are members of the New Egland Lace Guild, so it's not surprising that they found one another, and that the funds from Adrienne's sale of books was funneled into the Ratti - *for lace-purposes only*.

I'm a member of NELG also, but my two brain-cells decided to short-circuit when all this stuff was going on, and I only "woke up" when the last few book remnants were being offered for sale at distressed prices :) I "woke up" aggrieved... I have some books to contribute also, why wasn't I told earlier? "You're not dead yet", said Adrienne "this is a collection from members who're gone"

So, OK, I'll do it on my own :)

I have 4 books which I'd like to dispose of, for the benefit of the Ratti Lace Fund. Three of them are second copies - I picked them up, at some discount, to save them from being pulped. They're in *perfect* condition, since I never even opened them, once I'd bought them (I keep using my own copies). The fourth is also in the original, mint condition, due to the fact that, after the one look at it (I'd bought it sight unseen) I decided it it wasn't, really, "my cup o'T" afterall. I've sought Adrienne's help with pricing and decided that a 3rd off the sticker/current selling price (plus shipping) is a fair asking price.

Due to horrendous postage costs, I'm offering those books to *US Arachneans only*. I'll send them via Media Mail (used to be Book Rate), in a padded, water-proof envelope. If you're interested, send me an e-mail, and I'll give you my s-mail address to send your check to.

The books are:
1) Roz Snowden, "Miniature BL". Paperback, 1998.
Available from Holly for $14.95 (same as my sticker price. It now sells at Fay's for 25 *Euro*; can you believe it? Her prices always used to be lower than those in US. But she seems to raise them, while Holly doesn't)
I'll sell my copy for $10 + $3.10 PP (total of $13.10)

2) Ann Collier, "Lace for Dolls and Dolls' Houses". Paperback, 1997.
At Holly's for $29.95.
My price, for the benefit of Ratti - $20+ $2.70 PP (total of $22.70)

3) Pamela Nottingham, "Technique of BL", second edition. Hardback, 1995.
That one was harder; both Holly and Fay carry it, but in paperback (Holly at $18.95, Fay at 29 Euro - yikes!), while mine is a hardback. Searching for the hardback, with a dust jacket on (via abebooks) I came up with 3 copies available, ranging from $25 to $40, and none sounded like it was in the mint condition mine's in. The sticker price on mine is GBP 17.99, which, *today*, converts to $34 and change (was probably less when I bought it, it being in the pre-Bush dollar <g>)

I'm offering the book for $25+ $3.54 PP (total of $28.54)

4) Mikhailov Lace. A portfolio, in 4 languages (Dutch, French, English, German) of 12 patterns (+ 2 variations) in Russian Tape Lace. Put together by Iraida Belozerova and Ludmila Kostromova, and published by 't Appostellentje in Bruges (Belgium). Lots of coulour and gorgeous in many ways, but I'm not young enough to even dream about making up any of the patterns before my own ideas dry up, so I'm willing to let it go. There's no publication date to it but it's recent, judging by the price - available at Holly's for $44.95, which suggests a deflated dollar :) The front cover of the portfolio has a couple of "suggestion of a crease" problems - not my fault; that's how I got it; I expect it happened during transit from Bruges. But the patterns themselves are unsullied.

I'm asking $30+3.12PP (total of $32. 12)

Let me know if you're interested in giving a home to a lace book and to supporting the Ratti Lace Fund with a single check... :) Please, even if you know my s-mail address (from the IOLI or the US/OIDFA directory), *do not* send a check without first checking with me, to make sure the book's still available. I'm all for cutting the cackle, but...

And, while I'm here and prosing... May I suggest - to the US Arachneans, at any rate - that, if you can afford to, ditching some of your book doubles/mistakes "for the intention" of the Ratti might be a good way to let others get hold of the books, while letting the Ratti know they're *wrong* - there *is* interest in lace...
