Thanks for the heads-up Clay. A very interesting item. >From the last picture, it looks to me that the center cloth is tacked in. Does that really make much sense? I wonder if the excellent condition of the center fabric is because it is a replacement. I know a lot of early lace was temporarily attached so it could be taken off when laundering but this looks particularly crude to me. And a hankerchief that old could easily have gone through several centers. Also the central fabric is described as "slightly whiter cloth" so that may point that way as well.
