Liz and the Spiders, I don't think destroying items to make other items is as unusual as you think! I am always appalled that dealers - the very people you would expect to love and treasure the books - cut up old books just so they can frame the coloured prints, and charge the customers per frame, rather than a much smaller amount for the book. As with lace - it would seem that a small bit hacked about and used to make something else which is probably not meant to last, is far more profitable. I suppose all we can do is raise our eyes to Heaven, and resolve not to do it ourselves, and to try to conserve whatever antique items we may have, whatever they are.
Carol - in Suffolk UK - hot and sticky today! Maybe a thunder storm on the way ... ----- Original Message ----- From: "Elizabeth Ligeti" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Thursday, July 14, 2005 6:12 AM Subject: [lace] Old Lace >that most of her collection went > to Collectors not dealers, as the collectors would leave the pieces whole, > but the dealers would cut them up into lengths and sell the pieces, there by > getting more money for them. - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
