The Norwegian-style needles are not intended for lace net and will not work. They're for shopping bags, tennis ball holders, basketball hoop nets, lobster traps, and other coarse nets. I think it would be a good idea for you to go back to Rita Bartholomew's site and see how netting is actually done. The needle must be small enough to go through the holes of the net.
