Hello Spiders I returned from Kenora on Saturday after having a wonderful week re-connecting with lacemakers and former parishioners of ours. The Exhibit opened on Tuesday and it was truly exciting to see such a fine display by the Lake of the Woods Guild! I must admit that I felt very proud to have started the tradition of lacemaking in the Kenora area. All in all, the exhibit has 155 pieces of lace of various styles - Torchon, Buckspoint, Romanian Point, Russian, Blonde, Beds and Honiton. The challenge for the Guild this past year was to make a piece of lace using a bookmark pattern but to use it for something other than a bookmark. Not all of the girls have finished their ideas but June's capri outfit was on display and the hat I wore in Japan. It will be fun to see what other ideas surface! On Wednesday (and every Wednesday and Saturday until the 10th of September), we did a demo all afternoon and were thrilled with the number of visitors that came to see our lace. One gal was visiting in Kenora from Barrie Ontario and was so excited that she finally found some people who could get her started making lace. She was so excited when I told her that there is a Guild in Barrie - I will be seeing her at the Sept meeting when we are down in that area on holidays. On Thursday, we had a lace luncheon and the President Ev Wilson, gave each of us a Commemorative Bobbin from the Guild to mark the special occurrence of the Exhibit. I must say that even though I had the 14 hour drive up on Monday and 14 hours back again on Saturday, I wouldn't have missed it for the world! I have uploaded a number of pictures to an album on my Webshot page. The link is http://community.webshots.com/myphotos I think you can access my albums from this. If not, let me know and I can send private invitations to any who wish to see them.
In answer to Jeri's question about Ecclesiastical work, I have finished making a piece of lace for the Credence Table for the little church where we spend our holidays in September. It will be blessed and dedicated on the first Sunday. I was asked to make this piece to match the one I did for the pulpit but have used a pattern taken from the Japanese book that my daughter found for me in Japan. Also, next year is my husband's 25th Anniversary of his Priesting in the Anglican Church of Canada so I am contemplating making him a new set of stoles and would like to make bobbin lace emblems for the decoration. If anyone knows of sources for this type of thing, I would appreciate hearing about them. Jane in Sunny Sault Ste.
