It would seem that many of us have come home from Denver in a high state of
excitement for attending IOLI Conventions, certainly a tribute to the Rocky
Mountain Lace Guild. I am still unpacking and going through the ephemera that I
collected but didn't read very carefully during the convention looking for
information about next year's convention in Montreal. In fact, I have just
visited the website of the hotel, _http://montreal.hyatt.com_
(http://montreal.hyatt.com) . It looks like a very pretty hotel.

All the discussion about the table ribbon has me considering entering the
contest for the first time ever, as I am consumed with the cerebral challenge
of producing an item to such unusual and exacting requirements. I thought I
understood what 2D meant until Tamara dissected the term. Now it seems like a
very difficult concept, sort of like quantum physics. I lie awake at night
thinking about how I could produce something meeting the requirements, but
looking nothing like a table runner. I anxiously await the centimeter
calculations of depth that will be forthcoming after Tamara measures various
gimps with
a calipers and produces the new and more scientific description of the
contest dimensions, so that then I can push the rules to the limit! :-)

It is unfortunate that the calendar for planning the events of the
convention and the calendar that each family uses for planning their vacation
are
pretty much the same. It is just about at this time that we start to outline
next
year's expenditure of vacation time and money. It occurs to me that this is
a very critical time for explicit information about the convention to
influence vacation decisions. In our family, the other family members are
presenting
ideas about what they would like to do for vacations this year. If I were to
know about specific classes, speakers, trips etc, now, I could be frustrating
their plans with greater ruthlessness. For instance, the information about
whether there will be any speakers or activities about the Ursuline's lace
making activities at the Convention might be quite critical in keeping the
convention "on the table" in family negotiations, and override any beneficent
tendency that I might have to let someone else in the family choose a vacation
spot. My suspicion is that others are like me and that the more information
that is available about a convention in late August, early September, the
greater the turnout a year later.
