I think. Maybe <g> The Deutsche Kloeppelverband have an annual competition attracting entries from all over the world. One year they asked for submission of photos first, then lace later. In some years the number of entries is over the maximum that can be displayed (100ish I think) so the purpose was to pre-select entries to be displayed from the photos, then judge the actual lace. If my memory serves (and it may not), the number of entries to the competition in that year was greatly reduced. It isn't fair to say the reduction was a direct consequence of the photography requirement, since some themes seem to be a lot more successful in provoking entries. However it is worth noting that the DKV haven't chosen to repeat this experiment.
