There was so much talk going back and forth about the next IOLI convention competition piece, I lost track of what was in and what was out. Was Rosa Libra in or out?
Rosalibre lace is "in", since its 3-D aspect is a characteristic of the lace itself, not achieved by later "construction". I'm not sure about the butterflies, which are added afterwards, but the roses and the leaves definitely fit within the rules. And it's eminently suitable for this competition since, although it *can* be made in one colour, it "prefers" more than one, as required :)
I don't think I could possibly do a Rosa Libra piece in time, but if I could, maybe I could use it around my hat afterwards.
Of course you can! The thread used is fairly coarse, so it moves quite fast. It's a "piece lace", so you can work on it a bit at a time, and see something new on your pillow every day. You don't have to worry about the "finished ends" as you would with yardage-type of lace, either, since there are no unfinished ends to this lace... Go for it!
PS I don't know how strict the requirements of the Red Hat Lacers are but would suggest a *black* hat and a riot of red roses and green leaves as decoration, instead of a red hat...
