I, too, have been in touch with the artist, Carol Lummus. She identified the
lacemakers as the Vermeer lacemaker woman, a spider and a rose beetle. Based
on that information, I did a google search and came up with the following

The pictures of the bugs are gross (sorry, I don't like insects!), but if
you scroll down, you'll see some true lace created by these "lacemakers."
