And may I attest to that, Dear Spiders!!

Born and raised in good old VA, USA, I was also in the generation which was
vulnerable to the unlimited array of cheesy "stuff" foisted upon us by the
catalog(ue) industry which swept our country at about the time Tamara
arrived. In some ways, she was far more "worldly" that most of us. In
terms of the "good-old" US marketing schemes, she may have been (only
slightly less) resistant.

But I still remember, vividly, the first time she drove herself "over the
mountain" which separates her valley from our eastern foothills... and the
two of us set out for a visit to our (then recently opened) "Michael's"
craft store. First of all, that "solo" expedition was somewhat landmark...
she was still driving her old blue car, and nervous as a cat at the
prospect of leaving her familiar daily stomping grounds (read: the route
between her printers, the post office, and her neighborhood grocer). But
she arrived, full of pride at her accomplishment, and off we went to
"Michael's"!! I think we went through every aisle twice before she had
whipped her pocket snake into submission!! It took a while... and by
today's standards, I would have been comatose with impatience on the
sidewalk outside!! But this is now, and that was then!!!! (couldn't resist
THAT twist!). I was smitten by my own muses in those aisles...

When we finally departed with our studiously considered purchases, we each
had a small bag with meager treasures to show for our serious shopping!!!
It had taken us a long time to glean the treasures from the rest... And I
think Tamara may have opted for one more visit to that particular store
before it no longer "sang" to her. I haven't been is ages and ages... and
it's just across town for me. And that's in SPITE of their weekly "coupons"
for 40% - 50% off!!

I do apologize to all for indulging this fond recollection of laughs shared
with "T"! But I thought you'd all appreciate how much like the rest of us
she is - in spite of her particular genius with it comes to lacemaking, and
in spite of her difference in cultural background! And her pocket snake?
It's real!! I have a genetic mutant of hers which comes out from time to
time, but is far less resistant to my baser instincts.
