Hello Martina
There are so many different metallic threads to choose from!
For a beginner I would definitely say DON'T use a wrapped thread such
as DMC Fil Or, Anchor Alcazar metallic or Madeira 12, 15 or 40.
Wrapped threads are difficult to tension without kinking and pulling
the glitter wrapping apart.
Choose a bound or plied thread such as Kreinik Balgar blending filament
or Madeira Glamour or Madeira Opal, or a chained thread such as
Goldrush for a gimp.
What you choose will obviously depend on the thickness required, but
you can wind two strands onto one bobbin, or one strand of glitter and
one strand of metallic for a more subtle effect.

recently I started teaching my first bobbin lace course. There are 3
beginners and
one lady who did some bobbin lacemaking a few years ago.
Now the would like to do some Christmas ornaments and I have done a
few before
but never used any metal threads. Which ones do you use? Are there
differences in
how stiff they are?
