what the equivalent size for a cotton size 60 would be,
Cotton 60/2, cotton 60/3, cotton 60/4 or cotton 60/6? They are all
different.
if they had 60/6 that would be great because doesn't that mean a six
ply to make the size 60 thread? but in cotton it would be something
like size 30 which i don't need. i'm just going to use the size 80
because it is a project without a pattern that i am working on, but i
wanted a small thread. so no big deal about the size, only that i want
the same size as the cotton 60 to work with.
60/6 means six plies of size 60 in whatever count system is being used.
60/3 means three plies of the same size 60 - which means only half as
much cotton fibres per metre, and half the cross section area, but it
does NOT mean half the width.
I can't think of any 60/6 linens, but most crochet/tatting cottons are
6-cord (actually three 2-plies spun together) such as DMC Cordonnet or
Coats/Anchor mercerized crochet cotton. What you in USA tend to just
refer to as "tatting cotton" is in fact DMC Special Dentelles 80/6, or
something very similar, and because it's six plies of size 80 cotton
count it's a bit finer than six plies of size 60 cotton count.
