Qiviut from the source can be seen here: http://www.anchoragemuseum.org/ click on Museum Shop, click on Contemporary Crafts True, it is v. expensive, but it is a divine yarn, and bee-yoo-tiful for knitting into a lacey scarf which I'd prefer to a headband for such a luxurious-to-the-touch yarn, I'd *want* it around my neck :)) An ounce from the above site is 220 yards, knit softly in an open pattern, should go quite far. I notice they refer to the neck accessory as a 'smoke ring' - fine and light indeed. I spun some raw qiviut once, tedious to prepare because the tough guard hairs have to be removed first, if the 'down' fibre is to be used exclusively (and preferably). I then combined the qiviut with fine wool yarn and wove a lovely scarf - this was pre-lace for me. Alas the moths thought it lovely too :( bye for now Bev in Sooke BC (on frisky blustery Vancouver Island, west coast of Canada) - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
