My lace is made, and I was getting ready to send it

You think *you* have problems (I've been reading "Born to Kvetch" and beefing up on my Yddish inflections <g>)???

I signed up for two exchanges - one private and direct (for an ornament rather than a card), and the one set up by Bev, where A sends to B, B sends to C, etc. Because of the contredanse of various obligations (add IOLI into the mix), I started wih the private arrangement one - "Partrige in a Pear Tree" (for Barbara Joyce), in exchange for a knitted lace angel, with a BL pillow (always willing to accomodate someone who wants little in exchange for much <g>)...

Finished it early in November, took it to PO and sent it off... Let Barbara know to look for it... A week later, she still had not confirmed receipt... Now, whatever I may think about US and its services otherwise, I've _never once_ has a problem with the Post Office, so this was upsetting...

I asked... "No, no sighting", came the reply. "Did you send it to: and she gave he address)"? Well... No... I don't think so; the address she gave me didn't ring any bells at all;I don't think it was the same one I got from the IOLI Directory. I check with the IOLI Directory, to see what it *had been*. There's *no entry* for Barbara in the Directory... So, where on earth *have* I sent the avian disaster????

I don't know how many of you have to live - on a daily basis - with a mind which used to be perfectly adequate/verging on brilliant, but which, now, is failing you, in a hop-scotch, totally unpredictable, pattern... It's a most unpleasant and dispiriting "thing" to happen to anyone.

When I first became aware that "moronitis" was descending on me, I began to build "defence walls" (leevees? we've seen how much good they are <g>); I take notes, I make lists, I keep receipts... I looked for the receipt that the PO issued, the first week of Nov (I thought), when I sent the xyz-ed *bird* to Barbara... What I found instead was an envelope - unadressed, unstamped, unsealed... But... with the card (dated Nov 4) and with the benighted bird inside.

Barbara was amused when I told her what'd happened, and she said she wouldn't tell anyone, which I don't think is "right" - the story *is funny*, even if it's less than hillarious to me.

The bird - never much good as food, though its eggs are supposed to be a delicacy - *has* arrived today (Thur) in Washington State. Given that I'd sent it out late afternoon on Tues from VA, I'm confirmed in my belief that *nothing* is better than the USPO... Perhaps *that's* the legacy we should give the Iraqis, instead of secret torture)

I'm almost quarter done on my "official exchange" card (different pattern), and it's going well. However... I think that even before it's off the pillow, I'll have a - stamped and addressed - envelope waiting to pop it into *right there*, on the pillow, this time... :)
