I was idly watching the BBC program Bargain Hunt on DSTV yesterday, while
trying to finish one of 4 lace angels for Christmas presents, when DH
suddenly sat up in his chair and said 'That's a bobbin-winder!" The teams
were buying in the Portobello Road market and there were some pretty
disparaging remarks about how these "miniature table-top spinning wheels"
did not sell very well. I forget what the original buying price was but it
finally sold for five pounds at auction.
It was just like the ones pictured on pages 13 & 14 of Jeffery Hopewell's
original Shire Album Pillow Lace & Bobbins, so I just had to write to the
program and tell the 'experts' what the item was.
Don't know if I will get a reply, but I feel better for doing it!
