i think its best for me not to try to use the wool for lace thread,
even though a few people have made some nice scarves that way. it is
too fuzzy and the shrinking is not really permanent and it can be
streteched to its original size. i had planned to spin the wool myself
after i preshrunk it, so i'm not sure if the felting would matter being
it would be drafted from the preshrunk fiber.
i can't imagine making a nice piece of lace in a size 80 thread and
next week see it stretch out to a size 8 because it got wet and tugged
on if that is possible! the fiber hairs would loosen back to its
natural size of what it was before it preshrunk unless it was blocked
when it was wet. i would hate to loose a piece of lace i worked six
months on because i spilled some water on it and it got tugged on.
