Hi, What do you mean by 'outer circumference is too great'? I'm guessing you are saying that the pattern fits up the fan stick, from the narrowing of the stick to just above the end of the fan stick. But the pattern sweeps sideways from edge to edge more than you thought would fit on the fansticks. In fan class last year, we found out that the lace pattern is a bit bigger than the finished product. Not only does the lace shrink a bit when removed from the pins, but the process of attaching the leaf to the sticks takes some slack. The lace flexes a bit between each fan stick. Our patterns were all a full half circle when we made them. The finished fans do not spread to a half circle when fully open. If your pattern is a half circle, and fits the fansticks vertically, then it might be the correct size for your fan. Take a careful look at it again, with the above factors in mind.
