I've had very good luck with the #40 and #50 "crochet" cottons, like Flora and those Turkish variegated ones (Altan Basaak, or similar names). Not that my oya came out lovely, but that's because I'm a novice and still have a lot of practice to get tension and loop size uniform. Robin P.
