Hi All,

I wonder if the fact that it fascinates little (and large!) boys also has
anything to do with the fact that Torchon lace is basically very geometric
and boys (I am generalizing now, and don't intend to insult any of our
ladies with similar tendencies) seem to like the orderliness of torchon -
when I taught Textiles at a local public school (unlike America, a public
school in the UK is a fee-paying, non-state school - not a school the
general public attends!) and had a Lace Club after school, the members of
said lace club were pretty evenly split between the boys and girls, but when
the boys got a little older, and were able to make their own bobbins in
wood-working lessons, they began to out-number the girls! So may be it is
something to do with both reasons - tools are used, and it is geometric!

Just my four penn-north - I still teach children, but only have a couple of
boys to teach nowadays!
