Oh thank you ladies for your lovely compliments, again a pattern I chose from the book (which belonged to my teacher). It was a complete new experience as it is the only one I have done in Russian lace. When I finished it I felt it was a little untidy and the centre body piece I did wrong in that I carried on at home during the summer holiday doing the leaves (flower shapes) in the bedfordshire style not realising there was a different way in Russian lace. Still she did explain how it should have been done, so I learned from it anyway. Once mounted on material and framed it is now hanging on my wall and I am able to appreciate it fully. It shows up in all its glory of style so I will try work another piece at some time in the future, although I will have to buy a book first:-)

I believe the half stitch mane was her idea but I do think it looks attractive done that way.

Since joining the lace groups online I have been privileged to see some of the Russian lace work done by others and am in awe, the waistcoats and other items of clothing are just fabulous. I have to give credit to my teacher, during the 4 years I was able to attend those lessons, she coached me and encouraged me from someone who wanted to be using DMC 40 size thread right down to the Broder Machine 50 in a gentle downward curve. I have now lost of fear of the fine threads altogether of course. Lots of the pieces I did were of her choosing until about the last year when she encouraged me to choose my next project. Both the boat pictures were done after that as well as the Dorothy photo frame which now holds a photograph of my husband and I on our wedding day 37 years ago:-). In memory of my mother in law whose name was Dorothy. Well I need to go, I want to check through my pattern files, I need some inspiration. I have promised to make a small piece of lace for my daughters, stepdaughter and I haven't found anything quite right yet. I don't know what I want it to look like yet, but once I see it, I expect I will know.

Lovely Lace, Sue. -- Especially that gorgeous Rocking Horse! Where did you get the pattern, please?

It's from "Russian Lace Patterns" by Anna Korableva and Bridget M.Cook. There are lots of pretty and interesting patterns in that book. Sue has personalised it -- and improved it, IMO -- by changing its mane to half-stitch.

I never knew _just what_ had bugged me about that pattern, but now I do :) It's a simple change, but extremely effective; suddenly, the mane is no longer "congested" and too "busy", but but is flowing as it should...

And let's see if the wicked spell of nearly 3 yrs has been broken on lace as it had been on chat; maybe I'll get my message back, making me feel a "proper member" of Arachne again :)
