Just switched on the TV to find Pat Perryman discussing Honiton lace and the
Honiton lace industry with one of their experts on the Antiques Roadshow. So
annoyed that I missed the beginning. It will be repeated some time, but I
don't know when. They were discussing that an expert in leaves would make
all the leaves and the lace would beassembled to order. That net was
hand-made until the advent of net-making machines when the means of earning
a living "albeit meagre" was lost. Pat said that nowadays lace is made as a
hobby and we've got to try and ensure that it continues.
It was very refreshing to see the "truth" being told instead of the
sold-called experts getting it wrong.
