Last week it was my turn to to host our textile study group. After reading
this list for months and fretting, I finally choose to focus on types of
lace technique -- woven, looped, knotted, needle, and embroidered along with
a little demonstration and lots of samples and books. The afternoon went
well since everyone in the group had some background with at least one
technique.
One of the members is focusing on indigo dying in Africa and especially in
Mali. She wanted to know if there is any current, or historical lacemaking
in Africa. My only answer was that we have an Arachne members from South
Africa but I think they were working at European style laces. So -- are
there any parts of Africa that any type of lace, even decorative knotting or
such for embellishment?
If any one has any information, I would appreciate both learning about it
and will forward it to my friend so she may follow up during her next trip
to Africa.
