Yesterday we had our regular meeting with a speaker, Pat Gibson, talking about needlelace. I'm afraid I can;t do her a great deal of justice as so much of the interest was visual. She talked about her early days learning and, discarding, and then returning to needle lace. She was instrumental i helping, by trying out written instructions, in the production of needle lace books by ??Lovesay/Livesay?? I'm afraid I can't really remember the name but needle lacers among you will probably be able to elaborate/correct.
Her method of working is to find something she likes - a photocopy of early needle lace or a scene, for example, - put it on a light box and trace round the outline. (She gave a little hope to people like me who can't draw at all!) And she proceded from there. She brought in many samples of her work, some traditional and some modern/impressionistic. They ranged from an Indian style purse, which won a highly commended at OIdfa in Britain (2002?) to representations of a frozen waterfall made at her climber son's request and for him. He is now in New Zealand while 'his' needlelace is still here :-) She said she conducted two classes in North Island and two in South Island last year (or the year before) and is intending to go out again in 2007. I apologise for any inaccuracies in my report; my memory, which was never brilliant, has certainly not improved with 'maturity' :-) Patricia in Wales [EMAIL PROTECTED] - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
