I can thoroughly recommend a Lace Cruise. In 1987 (I think it was) Gretchen
of Beggars Lace organised a Caribbean cruise and Geraldine Stott and myself
were invited to teach lace on the cruise. We spent two days in Puerto Rico
where we taught in the local museum and I remember it was so hot and humid
as they had problems with the air conditioning, which was not good for us
needlelace makers. However there were plenty of ice cold drinks and easy
access to soap and water. We boarded our ship called the 'Festival' at
Puerto Rico and stopped off at Barbados, St Marten etc., teaching lace on
the days at sea in the ship's library. It was a fantastic experience and
one which I shall never forget. I have never seen so much food in my life,
with wonderful buffet tables bearing mountains of beautifully displayed
food, and always with a magnificent ice sculpture as the focal point on the
table.

I also recall that or returnt flight was delayed, which meant we missed our
connection and had to stay overnight in New York and spend the following day
sightseeing in New York. This was a bonus for us as I had never been to New
York. Such happy memories, I can thoroughly recommend a Lace Cruise and if
you are lurking Gretchen, many, many thanks for organising and inviting us
to teach.
