Where to begin!
I'm just coming to the end of a period away from work ill when lace
making was my retreat from a stressful world
a) Garter for the cousin's wedding. - I've finished version 2 of
the lace (a simple torchon pattern of my own design) and am trying to
summon up courage to put the elastic in (Have now got bride's
measurement) and make a bow
b) Hankie edging about 1 1/2 sides worth done. This is for the
groom's Mum at same wedding (What do Mum's do at weddings?!!!) One of
Henk Hardeman's 50 Buck's point patterns. This is proving a bit of a
struggle - twice through the pattern (about 2.5cm) and I start to fall
asleep!
c) Honiton - a butterfly has been on the pillow since October - I'm
3/4 through the braid and am determined to try "Toad in the Hole" or one
of the other fillings with leadworks
d) 7 Bookmarks - my first love and the mainstay of my first few
weeks off!
Orange with yellow gimp Buck's Point for my DH's Buddhism Book
Tomlinson easy torchon "Spider with half stitch trails" - twice
in reduced form and once full size
My dabbling with Design Buck's Point pattern - gave it away I
still haven't got one!
A new design - draft and final for a friend's birthday. I'm
trying to decide whether to send it to "LACE" for publication
e) An indulgence - I splashed out on some new Biggins patterns and
I'm about 1/4 through "Jennifer" in Autumn-ish colours - A runner to go
on our dining room table
f) A Prize! DH & I have prepared a light hearted quiz for friends
who practice Tai-Chi (To encourage donations for our teachers to take to
their summer course in Phuket, Thailand for Tsunami struck families). I
offered a bookmark as a prize & DH said "Could you do a Yin Yang symbol
to go in a Bangle?" Gulp!
I've done a design for braid lace that I was planning to do in Honiton
techniques but with tanne 50 thread & colours - BUT both my Honiton
pillows are full (see c) above plus what is prepared and ready for my
next tuition session with Pat Perryman!)
I tried it on an domed straw pillow, but didn't feel comfortable & I
don't really have enough Honiton bobbins anyway!
So - with my 2 hours experience from the Tamworth lace day last year
I've done it in needle lace. I used the "pricking" and the finished
article looked ok - although it can't go in a bangle because the back
isn't very neat! I'll try a coaster, I think! (Had a panic when the
round lace shrank & went wiggly when I sprayed starch on it while
pressing. Engaged brain and used the bangle as a frame to block it out
on my pricking board and it dried in shape.
g) A celtic counted cross stitch embroidered bookmark from York
Minster
By the way does anyone know of a "proper" yin yang motif design anywhere
that I could try?
Gosh - this is a bit of a ramble! Time for a glass of wine & put my feet
up, I think!
Bye for now
