Well....I did omit it, but I really didn't forget it. I thought about the beginning lacemaker who had asked the question, and figured she had enough to deal with without learning a different way of handling the bobbins this soon. Bolster pillows are a great way to handle yardage or odd shapes. They can be turned any which way, and keep on making lace. They come in many styles and sizes. Because there is no surface for the bobbins to lie on, they hang down. The continental method of lacemaking is adapted to this situation, and the easiest way to handle the bobbins is the palms up method. There are projects that are much easier to do on a bolster -- especially large projects. Give our new lacemaker a bit more time to learn the skills the way she started, and she'll be ready to try it the other way if she wants to. There are some other pillow styles around. There are almost as many kinds of pillows as there are kinds of laces. Isn't it a fun art!
