Dear Tatters,

I do not want my e-mail address floating around on many lists, so am sending
this comment to Arachne, which offers some protection.

At the risk of being attacked, I feel compelled to ask: Shall we "think"
about what we want representing tatters?

What happened to a tatted butterfly, which I recommended? (I see it is
buried under the dolphin category.)

My nomination of a butterfly was accompanied by a long memorandum. It was
based on the symbolic meaning of butterflies that is especially relevant to
humanity, the fact butterflies exist in all countries (except Antarctica?), the
fact that butterflies have always been popular for tatters of all ages to make
(several centuries, at least), that they lend themselves nicely to exhibition
possibilities, and that everyone - even beginners - can tat a butterfly with
just a little instruction. Tatted butterflies have stood the test of time.
Why
have today's tatters rejected them?

Would not a simple lovely clear drawing represent tatters well in the 21st
Century?

I'm looking at a 3-D, 2-layer, tatted butterfly that flew into my home from
Hungary. Can imagine a variation of it in many displays in many sizes and
colors.
