Gracious Spiders, Please forgive me if this question has been asked (and answered) recently on the list; I've been swamped finishing preparations for my daughter's wedding, and haven't kept up for some months.
I have (whew!) finished the lace crown. It is about 2.5 inches tall, 20 inches long, joined in a circle. I will attach it around a narrow (about 1/4 inch) ribbon-wrapped metal band at the base. This base will hold the shape at the bottom. The lace is linen thread, and stiff enough (before I block it) to hold itself up. It is, however, susceptible to collapsing if pushed, so I'd like to starch or stiffen it a little in some way. In hindsight, I wish I had worked a tiny wire into the headside--but I didn't. I'd like the collective arachne wisdom on stiffening or starching lace, or any other suggestions you think might be appropriate (I do think my daughter will want to keep this piece a long time, as it was designed expressly for her, so I don't want to use anything that will damage or discolor the lace long-term). Also, if you have any great brainstorms or experience blocking a cylindrical piece of lace (with circumference 20 inches), please do share them! Thank you all in advance!
