A couple of years ago I wrote an article on sewing machines and their history
for Embroidery magazine. I will look up the number and date. Many years ago
(1970's) I wrote a paperback book on Machine Embroidery and the The Complete
Book of the Sewing Machine, for Hamlyn publishers. I did a lot of research
for these books.

If I can find the file on my computer, I will try and print out the Embroidery
magazine article, probably in several sections on different days, not to make
it too long. The first machines were chain stitch machines, first quarter
19c, then the first embroidery machine, Joshua Heilmann 1826 or 1828 (I do
not have the book in front of me). Singers first domestic machine no. 2
patented in 1856 and 1858. So they have been going a LONG time. I will do my
best, but am just in the middle of chapter 2 of my new book, and we are having
a heatwave, so I can only write early in the morning or late at night as my
loft conversion studio is like an oven.

 Will answer letters tomorow, thanks
