One of our group was asked to help some of the Final Year Students of The
Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts who are putting on a play called 'Ask for
the Moon@ by Shirley Gee (which explores the professional lives of six women
and one man who work in the rag trade. Four of them are workers in a
contemporary East London garment factory -a sweatshop- and the other three
are lacemakers, working in apalling conditions, in a tiny Devon cottage in
the 1840's.
Assistance included help in creating the scene, training in basic
lacemaking, provision of props and general advice.
The play has its first night last night (Friday 7th July and will run until
Saturday 15th July 2006
