While the idea to go to an ATM and get cash each day does seem
reasonable, the experience of many IOLI attendees is that the "cash cow"
runs dry very quickly anywhere within walking distance of the hotel, and
you're left with no recourse!! So my advice is to take what you think
you'll need for the first couple of days in Canadian dollars, (and add
more for the vendor's room if you can give yourself permission...) use
your VISA or Mastercard whenever you can, and then make it your first
order of business on day one to find more resources for conversion.
OR... check with a travel agent or your bank about the pre-paid cards
(although these won't work in the vendor's area, in some cases - and it
might be your luck that the item you MUST have needs to be paid by
Canadian dollars!!)
I won't be in Montreal this year... I'm still basking in the glow of
Denver. But I must say that I'm envious of all who are going to be
there! I'm looking forward to hearing all about it when everyone is
home, safe and sound!! Safe traveling for you all, and a wonderful week
