Thanks for all the suggestions, but they don't seem to be what I remember.
I have in my mind that there are four panels with square borders and each with a small scene inside, but not the ones in Ann Collier's book. Not particularly delicate, so I doubt that they'd be Honiton or Bucks Point. More likely to be torchon or free lace. If I'm remembering correctly, I'll come across them again when I'm not looking for them. That project can go on hold as I have one piece to finish and at least another two I want to do, so it's not as if I'll be idle.
