One of the workshops at Lace Guild Convention this year was about different ways of adding beads to BL. Malvary, Jacqui and I were in that group.

If you go to

you'll see a pic of my sampler. We didn't use half stitch, but from left to right it's:
seed beads along the starting line
seed beads on passive threads, pushed into place as required
bugles on the workers at the footsides
Large beads in a sewing (and seed beads on the threads used for the sewing) round beads on a 'gimp' thread (the 'gimp' was the same as the regular thread)
seed beads on the outer threads of a spider
seed beads on the footside passives (spot the mistake - one got missed off!) bugle bead added with a sewing above cloth stitch - I found that one to be tricky to do.

My chose to use linen thread, and I'm glad I did. Beads do add a lot of weight to the lace and the linen held its shape a lot better than the cotton samplers did.

I have a question regarding using beads in your design. I have a flower design I would like to try (original) using beads. I think I will be doing it in half stitch (again I will be playing to see what works), but I do want beads in it to make it look puffier and 3D. Do you add the beads to the thread as you are winding or do you add as you need, if so how would you do that in half stitch?
