That's probably because in the photo the tool is lit from the left, not from the right. It looks as though it could be a push/pull tool on the right. If that's what Carol says she's looking for, then that's probably what's there. It looks to me like a two-headed tool, not just a crochet hook with a wooden handle. If you look at the right side, there is definitely something metallic there and it's more likely to be functional than decorative.
